It was almost like Chris had a microphone in the room to hear what we were saying, or sometimes just thinking!
I recently had a friend who was having a very rough go of things; he had come in with an infection on the brain and then had complicating issues with his autoimmune disease and cirrhosis. It was determined that it was time to transition C to comfort/palliative care, as all measures had been exhausted. The orders were given for morphine and Ativan to be given hourly to aid in his peaceful transition. Chris went above and beyond during this time; and was extremely punctual in his coming in to administer the medications. Never once, while Chris was on duty did anyone have to call for anything, it was almost like he had a microphone in the room to hear what we were saying, or sometimes just thinking! We would say something about C's breathing seeming to be increasing work for him and boop there was Chris with the next dose of medication! I cannot begin to describe how wonderful this was for the family; they did not have to worry about anything because Chris was there and he had it all covered.
The children of the patient also stated that Chris was like this for them prior to the transition; he would put an antibiotic or something on to give, and he magically would show up right when it was about to finish so that the pump never beeped! Chris' attention to the little details just went above and beyond our expectations and exceeded anything that we could ever hope for in nursing care!
Chris shared with us that he has been with the hospital for 5 years, and that he has really tried hard to always provide this kind of excellent care to his patients. Chris is the type of nurse that you need to clone! He took the stress and anxiety out of the situation and made it easy for us to trust that C was getting the very best care possible!
