I was immediately drawn to her because of her warm and yet professional attitude. The most important things to me are that she made my husband feel comfortable and she advocated for his needs.
My husband was hospitalized at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center on an emergency basis after complications from a medical procedure. We went through two weeks of significant health issues because of this and finally were taken care of through the emergency room. He was admitted late in the evening after a surgical procedure, and I didn't see him until the next morning. Chrissy was his nurse that day, and her cheerful and yet concerned attitude immediately drew me to her. As a retired nurse myself, I appreciated her concern for him and for me. She was reassuring to me and made me feel comfortable that I could go home and she would look after him. (We live 90 minutes from the hospital, and given the late-night surgery, I spent the night in a local motel, and I was exhausted from two weeks of trips to the local ER and the MD office.) I was immediately drawn to her because of her warm and yet professional attitude. The most important things to me are that she made my husband feel comfortable and she advocated for his needs. He commented that after I left, she spent time with him getting to know him better. She was right there when a doctor arrived and made sure that she understood and we understood what the Doctor was telling us. When it was important to us to have him discharged in the evening rather than wait until the next morning so I didn't have to make yet another drive to the hospital, she advocated with the hospital doctor to discharge him and did everything she could to make sure he had the medications he needed to go home. As a nurse who practiced for 50 years myself, I recognize her as an example of a professional nurse not only because she was skilled at the technical care but also aware of the social and emotional needs of my husband. That was something I was taught in nursing school, and I don't often see in today's nurses. Thank you, Chrissy, for your positive, caring attitude and compassion for your patients.
