I am nominating this nurse for the Daisy Award. She has a patient who who recently found out she was going to have to have her leg amputated. The patient is 15 years old and active in sports, so this news has been extremely devastating to the patient and her family. This nurse spoke with her mom and asked if it was ok to arrange for someone with a similar experience to come to talk to her. Her mom agreed. She searched and found a young woman who was injured in a boating accident a few years back that also had to have one of her legs amputated. This girl is now in the Physical Therapy program here at UMC. She agreed to come speak to the patient. This kind of care and compassion is what a Daisy Nurse should be. She has gone above and beyond and spent her free time arranging for emotional support and guidance for a patient. No one else can give the patient this kind of support because they have not experienced her situation. This nurse exemplifies UMC's standards and values and is extremely deserving of the Daisy Award.
