My husband was scheduled for surgery to remove old nonworking wires to his AICD. There were complications and he had to have emergency open heart surgery. He lost 8 pints of blood on the table and the surgeon said his chances of survival were very slim. The surgery team immediately saved his life; however the care he received once he arrived in the CVPPACU was what kept him alive and brought him back to me and his family.
Christa was very passionate, positive, informative, encouraging and comforting. She made me feel like she would care for my husband as she would her own family member. During the two days she was with him, I felt at ease when I would have to leave the room because I knew he was getting the best care available. Christa is an extraordinary person and nursing is her calling. Anyone unfortunate enough to need University Heart and Vascular will be cared for by an angel if Christa is their caregiver. My husband is a regular at UH HVI; the entire staff is awesome and I am so thankful for them saving my husband life.
I realize there was a lot that went on there were many talented, caring nurses that cared for my husband that I will never know or have the pleasure of meeting and I am so thankful and let me add very grateful for them saving my husband's life; however I will never forget the look in Christa's eyes as she cared for him or the tremble in her voice when she told me she would be off the next several days but she would be praying for him.
When Christa returned to work after her days off my husband had improved and was moved to the 3rd floor. Christa came to see him she wanted to see for herself how well he was doing.
