Christa did an amazing job advocating for and educating a patient to meet with the surgical team to talk about getting a colostomy. The patient has a very complex non-healing wound and frequent stooling is contributing to its inability to heal. Christa reached out to the surgical team, she spoke with the patient and his family to explain how this could help improve his wound healing, self-care, and quality of life. The patient was very receptive to this option and ultimately decided to proceed with this elective procedure. The patient has embraced this change being very active in his own care. His wound is responding positively. I'm sure this was not an easy conversation to have with this patient; I appreciate Christa taking the time to educate and explain the options for the patient and then support his choice. Great Job Christa! She definitely has made a difference for this patient!
