With the patient's consent, Christal called Animal Control in Muncie and arranged for Jack to be rescued.
Christal demonstrated multiple PETAL principles including compassion, empathy, and selflessness in her delivery of care to a hospitalized patient in March 2022. Christal was caring for a patient at IU Jay that lived in Muncie. The patient lives at home alone with his dog, Jack. Given the unexpected hospitalization, Jack was home alone and the patient had no one available to care for his dog during his hospital stay. With the patient's consent, Christal called Animal Control in Muncie and arranged for Jack to be rescued. The patient had the only key available to open his apartment to let Animal Control in. After Christal's 12-hour shift, she drove the patient's key to his apartment, let Animal Control in to rescue the dog, took a picture of Jack, and drove the key back to Portland on the same night to return the key to the patient and reassure the patient that his dog was safe by showing him a picture of Jack. Way to go Christal!
