After being rushed to the emergency room by my husband, I required emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy, an experience that was both physically and emotionally traumatic. Christian was my nurse during Phase 2 post-operative care, the final stage before discharge, and his compassion and professionalism made an immeasurable difference in my recovery that day.

From the moment he took over my care, Christian was calm, attentive, and deeply compassionate. He checked on me frequently and made me feel as though I was his top priority. He went above and beyond to ensure my comfort, bringing warm blankets, water, and crackers, knowing I had not eaten or drunk all day and was still very groggy from surgery.

One of the requirements for discharge was that I be able to urinate. After two unsuccessful attempts, Christian never once made me feel rushed or pressured. Instead, he reassured me that this was normal, encouraged me to be gentle with myself, and gave me the invaluable gift of time, completely stress-free and unhurried. In that vulnerable moment, he made me feel seen, understood, and genuinely cared for.

Christian’s kindness extended beyond me to my family as well. He graciously offered to get them anything they needed to be comfortable while they supported me. He took the time to thoroughly explain my post-operative care instructions, helping my husband and me feel informed, safe, and confident about going home after such a difficult experience.

When it was finally time to leave, Christian gently assisted me into my wheelchair and shared a meaningful conversation about his continued passion for nursing after 19 years in the profession. That passion was evident in every interaction, as I could truly feel it radiating from him. Christian exemplifies patient-first care through his dedication, empathy, and genuine love for his work. If anyone deserves this award, it is Christian. His presence turned one of the hardest days of my life into one marked by compassion, dignity, and exceptional care.
