Christian didn’t have to do that—but he did. He chose to show compassion, empathy, and kindness in a moment we’ll never forget.
Congratulations to Christian Frank, an outstanding Oishei Children's Hospital nurse, who consistently demonstrates excellence and is an outstanding role model in our nursing community. Christian was nominated by a patient’s family member, who shared:
“Christian is an outstanding nurse in so many ways. As a mother and a nurse manager, I often notice the small things that can go overlooked in a busy hospital setting—but Christian’s actions are impossible to miss. My 7-year-old son came to the ER with severe stomach pain and was extremely nervous, especially about getting an IV.
Christian explained the process in a way that was easy to understand without condescension. It struck the perfect balance of understanding and age-appropriateness. After the IV was all set and done, Christian reassured my son by explaining that there was no needle left inside, just a soft catheter, which helped ease his anxiety. These actions seem small, especially to someone with medical knowledge.
Christian made the entire experience easier for us. When we returned from an ultrasound, we found two small gifts and a handwritten note on a paper towel that said, ‘I’m sorry about the IV buddy. Hopefully, these help. See you soon.’ It was a simple gesture, yet it meant the world to us. Christian didn’t have to do that—but he did. He chose to show compassion, empathy, and kindness in a moment we’ll never forget. We need more nurses like Christian.
Thank you, Christian, for all you do.”
