Christiana was our first nurse on arrival for an induction and was also our nurse for delivery. I really thought she exemplified the concept of nursing, not just treating me as a patient, but also as a person. It's hard to describe the stress and uncertainty of delivering a child, and I am not sure how we would have done it without her. She was proactive, personable, and professional. She was very clear about what was happening, what the plan was, and kept me informed. She was very positive and supportive in a way that was both emotional and medical. She made us feel calm and more comfortable just with her energy. We always felt like we were in very good hands. I am struggling to adequately capture her in this nomination, but I’ll leave it at this: at one point during labor, we started talking about carbon steel cooking pans, who knows why. In addition to distracting us in this moment, she seemed genuinely interested. The day after we got home, we bought her a pan as a thank-you present because we wanted to thank her that much.
