Chrissy’s compassion, attentiveness, and dedication stood out to me in a way that I will never forget.
I would like to nominate my nurse, Christina (Chrissy) Constantino, for the DAISY Award because she went above and beyond in providing care, compassion, and advocacy during a very difficult time for my family and me.
I have Meniere's disease, which is usually well-managed with my home medications. However, I experienced a sudden and severe flare-up at work that required ambulance transport to the ER.
Emergency departments can often feel rushed and overwhelming, but Chrissy took the time to truly listen to me and treat me as a person, not just a diagnosis. She asked what had worked in the past, what hadn’t, and advocated for the best treatment to manage my symptoms, rather than just administering medications and moving on.
Despite the ER being especially busy with traumas, strokes, and other emergencies, Chrissy explained everything clearly to both my children and me. She made sure I was safe and stable before discharge, and she went the extra mile by ensuring I did not drive home due to the medications I had received, explaining the risks and protecting me from potential harm. Her care was both clinical and deeply human.
The next day, when I was unfortunately readmitted, I once again had the privilege of being her patient. Chrissy remembered me, spoke with me, listened with patience, and again advocated for my needs. She explained my admission process, made me as comfortable as possible while waiting for a room, and even offered me earplugs and an eye mask to rest despite the busy ER environment. With my permission, she called and updated my husband, and thoughtfully contacted him again when I was transferred upstairs so he would know exactly where to find me.
Chrissy’s compassion, attentiveness, and dedication stood out to me in a way that I will never forget. She treated me not just as a patient, but as a person with a family who was scared and struggling. Her ability to balance the demands of a hectic ER while still providing individualized, thoughtful care is remarkable. For her outstanding compassion, advocacy, and commitment to patient-centered care, I wholeheartedly nominate Chrissy Constantino for the DAISY Award.

**** On a side note, the day that Christina had received her award was the day she came off orientation! What a great way to start her career with The Hospital of Central Connecticut****
