Our daughter was 36 when she had a massive coronary. She received urgent care and was transported to Henderson Hospital Tuesday night. We got "One of those" late-night calls and came from the Lake Tahoe area. The info on the call was factual and direct and allowed for us to spend time with our daughter while she died. Our nurse was with us Thursday and Friday and treated J with compassion and dignity. She addressed J while providing care and apologized for disturbing J while caring for her (shots, tests, etc.) Our nurse expressed true empathy as a caring mother knowing we were losing our daughter. She attended to J in a remarkably compassionate way which brought us comfort during our loss.
In the final hours, this nurse coordinated our briefings with the doctors to keep us informed. She even requested a repeat briefing by the neurologist so J's fiancé could hear the details directly. Our nurse had to find me and J's fiancé in the stairway where we were grieving. We quickly recognized our nurse's competence and trusted her right away to help guide us through this unthinkable nightmare losing our daughter.
