Christina is a passionate nurse whose caring skills give patients a better quality of life. She exhibits daily examples of caring behaviors and always has a smile on her face. Many patients in her facility are faced with barriers and challenges that limit their acceptance in other facilities. They often come to Youngsville with little hope, but she treats them all with equal respect and dives right in to help the patient achieve better outcomes and work through their concerns. Watching her meet and interact with each new patient for the first time when no other clinic will accept them, gives confidence that Christina is a true role model. She is not just a dialysis nurse, but a holistic nurse for the patient and she utilizes her resources to refer patients to other medical health care providers to meet any and every need of the patient. She understands that dialysis is not just Kidney care, but truly is giving life. One specific example is her interactions with a patient that is around 40 years old who presented with multiple co-morbidities from an inability to ambulate, Diabetes, Hypertension, depression, etc. This patient would cry during treatment, on the phone, and expressed that she wanted to give up. She would often miss treatment. Christina quickly dove into action and built a relationship with the patient. She discovered that the patient had housing issues with minimal family support and it was causing transportation issues which led to the many missed treatments and decline in health. Christina worked with the core team to address the issue. Christina could have simply given the patient a phone number to call for a rehab facility, but instead, she coordinated with the hospital and physician to create a smooth transition at the hospital for admission and into a rehab facility. Christina stayed in touch with the team and the patient through the entire process. This is just one example of the extra time she takes with the patients. She is not just a “dialysis nurse” but a person who cares about each patient and that they have more days with family and friends.
