Christina Harmon, BSN, RN
Our 13-year-old daughter was unexpectedly admitted to the CTICU for severe hypertension after going to her pediatrician for her annual well check. She was very angry, confused, and distraught because she didn’t have any other symptoms, and our family was supposed to be leaving for Thanksgiving vacation.
Christina, her nurse, was very calming and supportive and helped get her through new and scary experiences like IV and arterial line placements. As much as my daughter hated being admitted, she looked forward to having Christina as her nurse.
Christina engaged her in conversation and helped her decorate her room to ease her anxiety. She advocated for her wishes, particularly limiting the number of medical providers in her room at one time.
As a pediatric oncologist who had the privilege of training here at CHLA, I have worked with many amazing nurses throughout my career. Christina stands out amongst them. She is a truly remarkable nurse who has the gift of developing amazing rapport with her patients and their families.
She went above and beyond to support my daughter and our entire family in our scariest moments. We are forever grateful to her.
