Christina has cared for me like I was a sister and comforted me like a dear friend. She listened, inspired, and gave me affirmation while holding my hand through my pain.
It is hard to express the impact Christina made during the two days together because she made this admission easier with her bright smile, selflessness, top-notch care, and pure love made this the best admission I have ever had. Now that is a big deal as last year I was admitted over 30 times. My illnesses are rare, complicated, and labile with barely any warning before things spiral out of control. I explain this because in the past I usually fought my illness, pain, and near-constant allergic reactions in fear and alone with providers briefly in and out and spending up to 2-3 hours to get needed meds or treatments.
However, this stay is different. Christina would come in as quickly as she could and anticipated my needs. When waiting for a med to “kick in” or if my pain reactions or fear felt suffocating she has been there with a beaming smile, holding my hand, and encouraging me until my body and mind relaxed enough for a hug and a promise she would be back soon and never broke her word. I found myself beaming and excited to see her. We laughed, connected over our pets, and relating experiences of obstacles and a fierce attitude to not let the monster in the closet win.
I was scared of the allergic reaction coming back but when it tried to show its ugly face I called for help and my angel superhero was there in moments, completely trusting my input and needs. I did not have any fear. She also went above and beyond when she heard about my favorite drink at the hospital and at home. She called dietary multiple times to get strawberry Ensure sent up as I cannot tolerate many things. She also got me a Pepsi Zero on the first day as Coke Zero is my favorite drink. This morning she totally surprised me by bringing me that drink (she stopped at a store for me).
The joy in my heart created a fire of happiness in my chest. She has cared for me like I was a sister and comforted me like a dear friend. She listened, inspired, and gave me affirmation while holding my hand through my pain. Christina is not just an excellent nurse but an angel on earth. I feel as though no amount of words could ever truly express the impact of her well past this.
