She thrived when Christina was around. And I learned so much about caring for a family by watching Christina be the best nurse she could be for her.
Christina is the absolute best nurse I have ever worked with. I am so grateful to work with her. I have learned how to work in an ICU through her grace and medical expertise- she has helped me through residency fellowship and now as a junior attending in our PICU. Her care and attention has reached hundreds of patients and families including some adult patients when we became an adult COVID ICU during the peak of the pandemic in NYC. But probably the best example of her compassion and empathy was with a young child who lived with us for most of her 3 years of life before passing away. Christina was an extreme comfort to her parents who always knew she was in the best hands when Christina was at work- so much so that they asked for her to do home care for (Child) during the short periods of time she was able to go home in her short life. When (Child) was gravely ill, Christina would come in on her days off. She would lovingly dress (Child) up even when she was sick and on maximal support. (Child) was more than a patient who tracheostomy dependent ventilator pulmonary hypertension complex congenital heart disease to Christina; she was a sister, daughter, and a little girl who loved baby shark. (Child) thrived when Christina was around. And I learned so much about caring for a family by watching Christina be the best nurse she could be for (Child). I cannot think of anymore more deserving of this award than Christina!
