Encouraging patient engagement is a crucial part of the nurse/patient relationship. This nurse was credited as speaking directly to “my mother” and not to the family first. The family went on to say this nurse treated their mother like she was her own. She was described as attentive and always took the time to explain the options presented in a way they could understand. Even with a mask on, they could see she was always smiling and a joyful person.
