I truly believe that if not for her intervention, this patient would not have survived much longer.
There was a patient on CRRT with an open chest. This patient had a critically low phosphorus level of 0.9. This level was not reported as critical to the CVICU team. Christina notified me at 6 am of this critical level and we were able to correct it without clinical consequence to the patient. This is a miracle because this is the lowest phosphorus level that I have ever seen, especially with a cardiac patient receiving CRRT. The amazing thing about this situation is that Christina was not even on call that day, but she took it upon herself to look at the status and labs of our patient and notify me immediately. I truly believe that if not for her intervention, this patient would not have survived much longer. She should definitely be recognized for the autonomy she used, her dedication to her job and to patients, and her compassion towards her patients for better quality outcomes for everyone. She has earned my trust and respect.
