Yesterday was Sunday and we usually do not have wound care coverage on the weekends. Dr. C called me wanting a wound vac applied to a patient. I told him we did not have coverage on the weekends but he was pretty insistent that this could not wait one day. I made calls to all of our wound care staff. When Chris called back I told her Dr. C stated the patient's wound was pretty extensive and could possibly need to return to the OR if we did not get a vac on sooner, rather than later. Not only was it a weekend but we were also having some significant inclement weather. Chris agreed to come in, however once she arrived she could not find a wound vac. She made the appropriate phone calls and was able to obtain a vac and get it placed on the patient. Chris went above and beyond to help this patient.
