Christine arranged a "port parade" and took the patient and mother up to the Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic and unit so she could see all of her favorite care team members and celebrate her port removal, signaling the end of current treatment.
The patient's mother and attending MD wanted to recognize Christine for exceptional care with a long-time pediatric oncology patient. The patient's lengthy treatment for leukemia included a relapse and subsequent successful BMT. In July, the patient came to the SJCH periop area to have her port removed. Christine has seen this patient come back and forth to the OR for procedures over the course of her treatment and discussed with the patient's mother that this was a time to celebrate. Once the patient was recovered in PACU, Christine arranged a "port parade" and took the patient and mother up to the Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic and unit so she could see all of her favorite care team members and celebrate her port removal, signaling the end of current treatment. The mom and patient were truly grateful for this extraordinary act of kindness.
This is just one example of how Christine goes above and beyond each day. Christine openly shares that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2022 and underwent a bilateral mastectomy. She herself is now cancer free. Christine's kindness and empathy could not be more genuine and heartfelt. We are so thankful to have her as the clinical staff leader for SJCH prep and recovery.
