We are incredibly fortunate to have Christine Carroll as part of our ICU team.

Christine consistently demonstrates kindness, compassion, intelligence, and resourcefulness in her practice. She is a strong and unwavering advocate for both her patients and their families. What sets Christine apart is her courage to speak up—even when her perspective differs from the medical team—always ensuring that the patient’s wishes, comfort, and dignity remain the priority. In healthcare, it can be difficult to recognize when continued aggressive treatment may not align with a patient’s goals or quality of life. Christine approaches these situations with remarkable empathy and professionalism. She takes the time to sit with patients and their families, educating them and ensuring they fully understand the clinical picture and what to expect moving forward. Her ability to communicate complex and emotional information in a gentle, respectful, and compassionate way has not gone unnoticed—patients and families frequently express gratitude for her bedside manner and the genuine care she provides.

One recent example highlights her exceptional advocacy. Christine cared for an elderly, frail patient who had clearly expressed that he did not want extreme measures. Despite this, the medical team initially pursued aggressive treatment that would have caused unnecessary discomfort without changing the outcome. Christine took the time to sit with the patient and family, ensuring everyone understood the situation and the patient’s wishes. She facilitated meaningful conversations, involved palliative care, and respectfully advocated for a plan that honored the patient’s goals. Ultimately, the medical team agreed, allowing for a peaceful and dignified transition—exactly what the patient wanted.

Christine exemplifies the true spirit of the DAISY Award. Her dedication to compassionate, patient-centered care, her advocacy, and her ability to support families through some of their most difficult moments make her an outstanding nurse and a deeply valued member of our team.
