My husband has been hospitalized here for months. He has received excellent care from many staff. I have stayed at the hospital with him and rarely ever leave, but when I do leave, I always make sure his nurse knows. One day, I told his nurse, Christine, that I was leaving for a couple of hours. Christine who is very kind and personable said she was glad to see me get out for a bit. I told her yes, it is my birthday and that my son and mother were coming to go to lunch. Christine wished me Happy Birthday and I left. When I returned and walked into the room, my husband had the biggest smile on his face that I have seen him have since all this started. From under his sheet he pulled out a purple envelope containing a birthday card that he had signed and handed to me and mouthed (he has a tracheostomy) "Happy Birthday, I love you". Instantly tears filled my eyes, and his smile got even bigger as he pointed to the table across the room. On that table was a vase with the most beautiful red roses these eyes have ever seen. I was in disbelief. I must have had a "how did you do this?" look on my face because he had ahuge smile and said, "the nurse". When Christine came in, I thanked her and she smiled and said, "you are very welcome". This was not a simple "thank you" she knew my heart was full when I said it and her "you are very welcome" was absolutely from her heart. Christine knew she had enabled a very sick man to do something amazing for his wife. Christine embodies nursing excellence, her act of kindness goes above and beyond standard care. Christine's actions make her a true DAISY Nurse and she is one of MMC's finest!!
