She has made me realize that I’m not a victim; I am an achiever.
I believe Mrs. Christine McKenna is deserving of the DAISY Award because she has helped me tremendously with my PTSD. I came to her with chronic PTSD. I was on medication for this, for mood changes, hallucinations, bad dreams, and nightmares. She has made me realize that I’m not a victim; I am an achiever. I take SATT classes and meetings AA/NA because I was on drugs and alcohol for 40 years trying to mask my condition. She has opened up a whole new world for me with her counseling and therapeutic work with me. She has made me see another side of myself that I never saw before. I realize now that my symptoms go deeper than drugs and alcohol. Drugs and alcohol were just masking my hurt and pain for being ashamed of being poor, and I didn’t realize I came from a dysfunctional family. Some things happened to me during my stay in the military that caused me to have Chronic PTSD. By being her patient and having therapy sessions, it has opened a whole new world for me. I don’t need drugs and alcohol in my future; she has made me see clearly that my past wasn’t all bad. Thanks to her giving me the belief that I am somebody and I can change, I am going through this program, and it’s making me believe not only that but also that I can do it. At this stage in my life, I do know I have a bright and glorious future. Because of the therapy sessions, not only at the VA but also at the honor center, I know I can live without drugs and alcohol ever in my life again. I owe all of this to my higher power and am thankful for him sending Christine McKenna into my life. I think she is more than deserving of having the DAISY Award presented to her. Thanks to Mrs. Christine McKenna, I know I have a bright and wonderful future.
