The care I recently received at Schneck Medical Center after a fall and resulting surgery was excellent - from the competent and efficient ER staff, nurses, and doctors to the awesome crew on the second floor to the techs, nurses, surgeons, & anesthesia staff in the surgical suite to the PT after my surgery. A kind nurse who took special care of me is LPN Christine Prentice. Christine worked two of the days during my stay and was not only so competent, efficient, attentive, and friendly, but she showed patience and compassion. She certainly had other patients and other responsibilities, but she frequently popped her head in to check on my needs between the regular vital checks and her speedy responses to my call light. She never made me seem like I was needy, even though I needed help for basically everything.
At first, I wondered if I'd feel a little awkward with Christine as one of my nurses because a very long time ago, she was a sweet student in my fifth-grade classroom. Years later, I was also blessed to teach Christine's three children. When Christine first walked into my hospital room to check on me, I wondered if it would be a little embarrassing to have the woman who was once a ten-year-old in my classroom see all my parts and help me with such elementary needs. Christine was so professional in her nursing duties that it wasn't awkward or embarrassing at all. I was at the hospital as a patient with needs, and she was a very caring and skilled nurse who took care of me. I'm very proud of Christine and the wonderful woman and excellent healthcare worker that she has become. Teachers pray for the success of their students. We want them to be contributing members of society, people who make a difference because of their interactions with others. It was so rewarding to see and experience firsthand that Christine contributes in an awesome way to her society and makes a difference in the lives of many each day!
