It was a stressful and emotional time for our family, but Nurse Samuels was a steady source of support, professionalism, and kindness.
I would like to recognize Nurse Samuels for theextraordinary care and compassion she showed during my grandson's recent hospital stay. He underwent surgery on his patella, as his kneecap shifted toward his thigh. It was a stressful and emotional time for our family, but Nurse Samuels was a steady source of support, professionalism, and kindness.
From the moment she began caring for him, Nurse Samuels had a great sense of humor and a warm, reassuring presence. She helped put my grandson at ease- no small task, as he normally dreads hospitals, doctors, dentists, and anything medical.
There was a complication with his discharge involving his prescriptions. The doctors didn't include the diagnoses in his prescription, which caused confusion with the pharmacy. Nurse Samuels personally contacted both the Children's Hospital staff and the pharmacy (four times) to ensure everything was in place before discharge.
Even after her shift ended and another nurse came over to relieve her, she stayed beyond her schedule to continue calling both the pharmacy and the hospital. She was relentless in her efforts to ensure my grandson received all prescribed medications. When the pharmacy said only two of the medications were ready, she immediately went to work on solving the issue, showing remarkable attention to detail and true advocacy for her patient.
She took time to explain each medication thoroughly, especially emphasizing the importance of narcotic pain medication, which needed to be kept in my daughter's possession and administered carefully. Her instructions were clear, compassionate, and reassuring. She even answered all our questions without rushing us, no matter how long it took.
During this whole experience, she didn't just take care of my grandson - she cared for me too. She brought me a warm blanket while we waited. That simple act spoke volumes about her character and the level of empathy she brings to work.
Nurse Samuels is an outstanding example of what nursing should be. Her dedication, compassion, and thoroughness made all the difference for our family. If I could give her a million dollars, I would. She is truly an asset to your organization, and anyone under her care is incredibly fortunate.
