Cris ALWAYS strived to be the best version of herself and the best version of a nurse, every day. Above all, Cris was a beautiful, caring, human being.
Cris Tyler exemplified professionalism in all aspects of nursing. Her care, compassion, and skill were among the best at BHH. She valued life-long learning and role modeled staff engagement at all levels. Cris championed shared governance and attended every shared governance council meeting, every month. She demonstrated all Pathway to Excellence core standards in her professional practice. First, she helped lead shared governance activities within her home nursing unit, demonstrating leadership. Her projects and insights were specific to the patient populations she served and reflected core safety areas, demonstrating a commitment to quality and safety, core Pathway to Excellence tenants. She worked to develop a research project and make practice changes in her nursing specialty; she was a champion for professional development. Lastly, Cris shared many health-focused tips with her peers and was uplifting to colleagues and her patients, even though she faced her own personal journey with cancer. She strived to elevate well-being among all nurses. Her commitment to shared decision-making was astounding. During the last weeks of her life, she would Zoom into a council meeting, while on her drive to cancer treatment. Even when admitted as an in-patient, she asked her nurse to text the CNO and ask how she could join the council meetings from her patient room. Cris ALWAYS strived to be the best version of herself and the best version of a nurse, every day. Above all, Cris was a beautiful, caring, human being. Knowing her made all of us want to be a better person and a better nurse. She inspired us through her life and her nursing practice. We humbly submit this DAISY nomination in memory of Cris and her tremendous contribution to shared governance, and thereby, her positive impact on countless patients.
