He made her feel seen, heard, and loved during one of the darkest moments of her life. He provided her not only with compassionate care but also comfort, calmness, and understanding.
My mom (71) was admitted for possible TIA through the ED. The ED performed a non-contrast CT that resulted in normal imaging, but they wanted to admit for 24 hours for additional observation. Chris called me the next morning and was clear in his communication. He took time to answer my questions, hear my concerns, and work as a liaison between myself and the physicians since I was unable to be there in person at the time.
He was intentional with his interactions with my mother until someone could be present with her.
As the day progressed and more exams were ordered, it was determined she had metastatic cancer. The attending physician and residents notified my mother without other family present (we were not told they were heading in there with such devastating news), and Chris was immediately at her side, sitting with her and comforting her until we were able to be at her bedside. He made her feel seen, heard, and loved during one of the darkest moments of her life. He provided her not only with compassionate care but also comfort, calmness, and understanding. Chris continued to communicate with me throughout the days during her stay.
He stuck his neck out multiple times for me, advocating for her expeditious care. He never hesitated to lend an ear or a few minutes of his time with our family. My mom has been in and out of hospitals for years with unrelated health issues, and I can truly say I have never seen such exemplified care as what Chris provided. In an age where things are fast-moving and rarely do bedside manners count, having Chris as her nurse for multiple days was absolutely the silver lining in an otherwise horrific situation. We cannot thank him enough for making such a huge and positive impact on our family.
Note: This is Chris's 2nd DAISY Award!
