Maj Mitchell's breadth of knowledge in her practice area is recognized throughout the US Air Force, USA, DHA, and The Joint Commission.
* Appointed as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Air Force Service Co-Lead for DHA Sterilization/High-Level Disinfection (SPD/HLD) Committee
*Invited certification exam item reviewer for Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB) by the National Certification Corporation (NCC)
*Served as the Air Force Lead for the Armed Forces Affiliate Committee for Clinical Nurse Specialists, spearheading a distinguished series of 9 guest speakers to address the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse scope of practice and facilitating networking among military clinical nurse specialists.
*Actively facilitates and mentors students in creating a webinar for the Association for PeriOperative Nursing (AORN) in response to the knowledge gap in HLD reprocessing and quality assurance, as reported directly by the AORN's Director.
*Developed and delivered a webinar on adenosine triphosphate (ATP) testing to assess surgical instrument cleanliness and safety, attracting over 758 views and CEUs to optimize sterilization protocols and provide key insights for healthcare professionals.
*Co-led the redesign, delivery, and evaluation of 2 HLD/SPD best practices courses to include dental and readiness SME panel across the USA, USAF, and USN, enhancing the practice of 182 seats (67 attending both sessions) (face to face, September 2024) interdisciplinary healthcare leaders/ 33 CONUS MTFs/ 11 OCONUS MTFs/ 1.3K CEUs awarded Maj Mitchell is actively involved in developing a practice scholarship process that delivers outcomes, and she is a team member of a TSNRP grant exploring new care deliveries that will offer country-spanning impact.
*Maj Mitchell currently serves as an AI for TSNRP Grant ($157K) "Increasing Resiliency in U.S. Air Force Personnel: A Multi-Site Trial" (PI: Dr. Stephen Hernandez)

Advances the scope and practice of nursing within the Uniformed Services and/or the Federal Health System:
*Maj Mitchell assures that the process, resources, products, discoveries, and outcomes of her perioperative knowledge (SPD/HLD; AMP Tracers, etc.) have penetrated the professional conversation and informed programs, both service and civilian developments across the country. Her efforts and generosity of mentorship and knowledge hold such promise. Her scope of practice is directly connected to the organization's strategic intent, the community's health, the services, and the beneficiaries we care for.

To this end, her contributions include:
*Appointed GSN interim Assistant Commandant supporting graduate nursing students' advisory needs from three cohorts (2025, 2026, and 2027) and 5 GSN programs (FNP/WHNP, CRNA, PMHNP, CNS, and PhD)
*Nominated to the Curriculum Committee as Co-Chair, contributing to the revision, review, and approval of the APRN course curriculum for the GSN
*CNS role Advocate to DHA- Serving as a perioperative Subject Matter Expert, leading two standards of care reviews and advising senior leaders on the role and impact of the CNS role. These reviews highlight the strategic value of CNS utilization in ensuring quality patient care and identifying enterprise-wide opportunities for improvement.
*Pioneered a water quality program, the first in Nevada military health system, 1 year ahead of published national standards, was appointed as Defense Health Agency (DHA) Subject Matter Expert
*As a Subject Matter Expert, she established clear technical criteria for water quality in sterile processing departments and disseminated these standards throughout the DHA, impacting 708 medical facilities worldwide.
*Mitchell has encouraged current CNS students and recent graduates to attend NACNS Armed Forces Affiliate meetings on nine occasions since her arrival, resulting in a 30% increase in student engagement. Each monthly meeting attracts over 30 CNS professionals from the Navy, Air Force, and Army, facilitating the exchange of more than 15 best practice strategies annually. Her leadership has connected her students to a robust national network of over 150 CNS students and certified CNSs, providing access to more than 10 specialized professional development resources.
*She coordinated two Operational Elective courses: one on Critical Care Air Transport training for one nurse at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base's School of Aerospace Medicine and another on Aeromedical Evacuation Transitions of Care for three nurses at Ramstein Air Base and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. This comprehensive initiative directly supported the safe evacuation of 21 patients to definitive care sites, ensuring timely, high-quality treatment. Moreover, the effort bolstered readiness and deepened understanding of the elevated standard of critical care delivery throughout the Department of Defense.
