It was because of Christy's passion, concern, and innovation that this nurse was able to access a support service that would meet her needs during such a stressful time.
In her role as the Quality Improvement Nurse Manager, Christy exemplifies the spirit of this Award. Christy's care for international nurses begins well before they arrive in the U.S. as she works to ensure their preparedness and on-the-job success.

Christy’s implementation of our Your Listening Partner program is a standout example of her outstanding work. This program gives international nurses working with Health Carousel access to free and confidential care sessions with a chaplain whose mission is to guide burned-out healthcare providers to a restored relationship with their profession. Among the 60 nurses who have availed of this program in the last year, one story stands out:

A Health Carousel client contacted Christy's team to see what assistance could be provided to a nurse who had just recently started her US assignment and given birth prematurely. Her infant required immediate hospitalization and would need ongoing medical care. Without adequate support at home, this nurse was struggling to return to work while caring for an ill newborn. Through Christy’s determination and the Your Listening Partner program, Christy arranged for the program's board-certified chaplain to meet this nurse in person to give her the support she needed. It was because of Christy's passion, concern, and innovation that this nurse was able to access a support service that would meet her needs during such a stressful time.

Christy is always ready to provide the nurse-to-nurse peer support needed to build resilience and avoid the burnout prevalent in this demanding profession. Unsurprisingly, Christy's efforts to support international nursing go well beyond her core work functions—she is an active percipient in nursing development programs at the Health Carousel Foundation. She coordinates Health Carousel's DAISY Award program, which has provided dozens of awards to international nurses on assignment in the US and countless more through the DAISY International Advocate Program.
