I am proud and grateful to have a nurse like Christy to work with anytime.
Christy is an awesome nurse. I am not the only person who wants to nominate her. Pretty much any CNA that has worked with her agrees that she deserves this award for all that she does. There have been so many events that stand out.
A lot of people think that elderly people sleep all night, so working overnight is easy. Let me just say, that is false. There are a lot more behaviors at night with residents that have dementia or Alzheimer's and that is why Christy is such a great nurse. She has so much patience with the residents. She knows how to calm them and soothe them when they get confused. She takes the time to talk with them and really listens to what they are trying to say and sometimes that's not always easy to do. Christy has worked as the CNA and as the Nurse many times on the night shift because of staffing shortages. Not very many nurses that I know of would do that without complaining. But Christy does it, with no complaints, because she knows it needs to be done.
Whenever we call for help over our radios, she answers us right away if we need help on rounds or if we are having a lot of behaviors with residents. She can always tell when a mental break is needed and steps in to take over for a short time. As a co-worker, we can always count on her to help out, even if it's an undesirable situation, as she's not afraid to do a little dirty work if necessary. Also, she is always quick to show appreciation and respect for the CNAs/TMAs that work with her. Christy is also a single mom that works extra hours to help out wherever she can. If the day shift needs help getting residents ready in the morning because someone called in sick, Christy will stay late and help get the resident's morning ADLs done so they can be up for breakfast on time. She also comes in early a lot because of staffing. She is not afraid to step in and do CNA work even though she's an LPN. That is why Christy has been nominated. Not only for how caring and gentle she is with the residents but also for how appreciative and respectful she is of co-workers. Christy is a one-in-a-million great nurse!
