Our 3-year-old son was in an accident on a Saturday. After an extremely scary and emotional day, we felt at ease once we were in the care of the trauma team at Stormont Vail. I was very grateful for many staff members - the trauma surgeon, social worker, surgical technician, and all the nurses, etc., however, one particular nurse has left an impact on my heart that I will forever be thankful for. Christy put me at ease as I was sitting in the bed with my son before going back to surgery. Our daughter was also in the emergency room at this very same time, and my husband was with her. As much as Christy tried to postpone getting our son back to surgery, I knew we had to get moving, as there was another emergent surgery also waiting. I could tell she was saddened by my husband not being able to see our son before surgery, but she really tried. As we wheeled back to the operating room, it was the first time my son had left my lap since the time of the accident. He was scared. I was scared. Christy graciously scooped him up in her arms and comforted him as they headed to surgery.
Additionally, prior to surgery, she took down my cell phone number and promised to keep me updated throughout his procedure. She held her promise and went above and beyond. Not only was she giving me the "play-by-play" of how he was doing during surgery, but she also continued to reach out to me later in the evening to let us know she was thinking about us and checking in on our son.
Nurses like Christy make stressful and scary times much more bearable. I appreciate everyone who cared for us during this time, but especially Christy. Thank you for the exceptional care you gave not only to our son but also to our whole family!
