Oncology nurses are very special. They make a big difference in the lives of their patients and families. Their knowledge and expertise allow them to play a key role as caregivers and educators. These nurses teach, encourage and comfort as they advocate for their patients’ needs. They are expected to be warm and efficient, comforting and competent, inspiring and resourceful; a challenging role for a nurse. Chrystie’s skills and compassion have earned her the following nomination for the Daisy Award:
Chrystie has been my one-on-one chemo nurse since my first carboplatin desensitization.
I was terrified and she went out of her way to make sure I had a good understanding of
every step of the procedure. She was aware of all my needs, even those I knew nothing
about. She made suggestions and went out of her way to get them implemented. Her
actions and concern added greatly to my comfort and security. She is an outstanding
nurse in taking the initiative and follow through in giving compassionate, extraordinary
care. Every admission she has made me feel secure, safe and cared about.
