I have been working with Chu Yeyuan for nine years. She is good at her job, but she always keeps a low profile.
In July 2018, Zhejiang province the 26th Supporting Mali Medical Team called for an OR nurse. We were shocked that Chu Yeyuan enrolled herself. She believed it was her obligation to go to Mali. After careful screening interviews, in January 2019, Yeyuan left Hangzhou for Mali and she would stay there for one and a half years.
Chu Yeyuan worked so hard in Mali. She told us that the medical environment in Mali was so underdeveloped. The OR rooms there were in a mess with unorganized materials and dust. She felt stressed in such an environment. What's more, Yeyuan could not speak or understand French, which is the commonly used language in Mali. So she could not read operation information sheets and other documents. Yeyuan did not back down from this responsibility. Instead, she made her mind to improve OR nursing service in Mali with her experience and resources provided by our country. It took her almost two weeks to communicate with Mali nurses to improve the OR environment. Every morning, the first thing she did was to inspect the OR environment for any deficiency, which she learned quite well from her supervisors in our hospital.
A while ago, Yeyuan posted a picture of her holding a Mali child. She was comforting him and preparing him for IV. This picture presented our hospital's philosophy- Give you sincerity, confidence, and love. Yeyuan also participated in the public good medical assistance program supported by French, Chinese and Mali experts. For two consecutive weeks, Yeyuan provided the best care for the 23 children with esophageal burn stenosis due to the ingestion of highly toxic dye. She believed that the program would promise those children a higher quality of life.
Chu Yeyuan did not only bring our hospital's OR nursing concepts to Mali but also showed a great love from Chinese people.
