A patienthad becomequite uncomfortable during the overnight shift at the hospital several weeks ago. Nurses were unable to start an IV, and the patient's family wasconcernedbecause their loved one was in pain and uncomfortable. Chuckensured the family was keptinformed and he was finally able to insertan IV. The family was relieved because the patient was finally comfortable andable tosleep. Chuck returned to check on the patient throughout the night each time he was in the area. As Chuck was preparing to leave work in the morning an on-coming staff member received a call that the patient had passed away. Although Chuck was ready to leave for homehe returned to the patient's room to extend his condolences to the family. The family thanked and hugged him.
Chuck didn't have to comfort the family after his shift had ended, but every one of his patients is treated like family.
