It was Cindy’s skills as a nurse to be able to provide outstanding patient care with empathy and compassion, knowing just what I needed in each moment that set her apart.
I was admitted to the labor and deliver unit in labor with my first child. I was scared of what was to come during the course of my labor and delivery. Cindy was the nurse that admitted me. She worked hard initially to set me up with all the resources I needed to be comfortable. As my labor progressed over the night, not only was Cindy’s clinical expertise clear but her compassion and empathy for my husband and me were felt. I remained in labor throughout the day, and when Cindy returned for her next shift, she got to work doing everything she could to help me progress. She utilized her team members to help me get into a variety of positions despite my epidural.

When I was able to start pushing, Cindy calmly encouraged and coached me. When I had to stop due to swelling that she noticed, saving me from a cervical tear, she explained the situation and informed the necessary team members. She then worked tirelessly throughout the night, going above and beyond to help me continue to labor safely.

When I ultimately needed a c-section, it was Cindy who was able to keep me calm. Knowing Cindy was going to be in the operating room was an incredible sense of peace during an anxiety-provoking situation. It was Cindy’s skills as a nurse to be able to provide outstanding patient care with empathy and compassion, knowing just what I needed in each moment that set her apart. I was able to relax during my labor, knowing Cindy was caring for me and my baby. As a fellow nurse, I have the utmost respect for Cindy and feel so blessed to have had Cindy as my nurse to safely bring my baby into the world. While there is no way to thank her for what she has done for me and my family, she is more than deserving of the DAISY Award.
