Since I was admitted to the hospital from the cruise ship, my wife had remained with me in Hilo. As she was a complete stranger in town and had no knowledge of the area whatsoever this could have proved a very daunting experience. Come forth a "guardian angel" in the form of Cindy, a nurse we met during my admission process. She has befriended my wife, and offered immeasurable advice as well as taking her shopping, showing her around, taking her to meet some of her friends at an evening meal in town and then to top it all, took my wife on a long car journey taking in many sights across the island and swimming with dolphins. Cindy is an exceptional ambassador to Hilo Medical Center and for the island community itself. My wife and I are truly grateful for the generosity and kindness.
