Cindy Martinez, BSN, RN
Cindy: What can I say about this remarkable young lady?! Or what can I not say?! As my nurse, she cared for my physical well-being, which was part of her job. Cindy went beyond the physical part of my treatment. Cindy saw a man with no family or friends going through a trying time alone and in despair. Cindy looked beyond the physical, saw there was also a spiritual need, and she allowed God to use her to speak to my heart and help me talk to the Chaplain.
Cindy made my traumatic experience easier to deal with, as there has to be compassion and recognition of the emotional needs of patients. I understand how Patrick Barnes and his family felt about the care and compassion he received. Honestly, if it was not for Cindy, I wanted to give up. Although all of my nursing staff around the clock was exemplary, Cindy Martinez stood out. Even if Cindy does not get this award, I will give her my own DAISY Award.
