Back in July, I had a patient code and pass away, and I did not cope well with it. This was my first patient loss, and it hit me hard. Two days after the code I was an absolute mess, I didn’t know who to turn to. I ended up calling Cindy, my unit educator, and I just cried to her and told her that I needed help. She was there the night it had happened and had helped me through it, so I knew she understood what I was going through. 

She immediately got me in touch with a counselor and drove over to my house. She and our department director brought me breakfast, helped clean my house, and, most importantly, made sure that I was safe and taken care of. Cindy did not hesitate to come and help me, even though it wasn’t the most convenient timing. 

Not only did Cindy help me, but the night of the code, she and our director took time to make molds of the patient's hands and helped get her all prepared for the family to see. 

Cindy goes above and beyond for not only me but the other nurses on the unit and our patients. Her compassion and passion for her work shows. I am so thankful for Cindy!
