Cindy believes every nurse is integral to the mission to provide the highest level of care to every patient and family.
We would like to offer a nomination for Cindy Sayre to be honored with the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
Cindy has been an influential leader at UWMC for over twenty years. In that time, she has shown dedication to patients, families, and staff in her words and by her actions. Cindy understands that care takes place within a community. She knows that nurses need time and structures to create and share effective practices, learn new practices, and evaluate these strategies. Cindy raises the bar, pushing us toward nursing excellence. Cindy supports bedside nurses and nursing leaders, humanizing the stressful roles we play, and encourages collaboration and teamwork.
Cindy believes every nurse is integral to the mission to provide the highest level of care to every patient and family. She inspires her colleagues to see the role that each might have in identifying and implementing both local and system-level changes.
A highlight of Cindy’s style is her dedication to open communication. She is sincere and authentic, and actively participates in Education Days, Town Halls, email, and, more recently, her weekly CNO update. Her authentic leadership has built trust and fostered an environment of safe communication. She walks straight into tough problems, with her unique sense of humor and can-do attitude, helping all of us to be pointed in the same direction.
Nursing has never been a 9-5 job; it is a vocation. A vocation and profession that requires a growth mindset and relentless determination to make a positive impact on every patient and family in our care, every day. Cindy inspires and embodies these qualities, and for that, we are extraordinarily grateful for her service and leadership. For her decades of dedication to nursing, patients, and families, we are honored to nominate her for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
