When Claire hears of a patient in need, she acts without thinking twice in an effort to help.
Claire truly embodies this internal enjoyment of serving and caring for others every day, whether she’s working or not. On numerous occasions, Claire has gone above and beyond for her patients and even for patients she is not directly caring for. When Claire hears of a patient in need, she acts without thinking twice in an effort to help. She exhibits all of the values of Baptist Health in every way; she leads with integrity, respects everyone she encounters, her stewardship is unlike any you have ever seen, her nursing care embodies excellence, and she collaborates with all disciplines effortlessly. She has grown during her time here from a new grad to a mature nurse who frequently precepts new employees and students. She has always been kind and caring and this example is only one of many in which she could be recognized.
Claire recently had a patient come through OB triage and noted that the patient had not only maternal health issues but other factors negatively affecting her overall health. Claire lent a kind ear, listened to the patient’s story, and genuinely had concern for her well-being. She made sure the patient was taken care of that day and planned to check on her when she returned in several days for the delivery of her baby. When the patient returned to be induced, Claire reported to the department despite not being scheduled to work, so that the patient could have a familiar face and support person nearby. Claire spent the entire day by the patient’s side, acting as her coach and her labor advocate; she even provided the patient with a restaurant meal so she could eat dinner!
Claire coordinated with the patient’s care team to help them understand some of the trauma the patient had previously experienced and how that impacted her interactions with strangers. Claire made sure she was present for the patient’s delivery and consistently checked on the patient throughout her stay. The patient was so grateful to have someone by her side with whom she had a real rapport. Claire gives her time to patients who need it the most without thinking twice because it brings her joy to provide them with hope.
