One of my neurology patients was admitted and Claire Gannon was his nurse. He was a victim of Shaken Baby Syndrome and at only a few months old, suffered irreversible neurological trauma with persistent seizures as a result.
He would cry and cry at night, and as an investigation was pending on the parents, he had no visitors.
Claire made sure he did not spend time alone and spoke to the night nurses to get a schedule so someone was always with him. It warmed my heart to know he never spent a night alone. Claire would sing to him and hold him at every chance she could.
Claire would cradle him in her arms to make sure he felt that human touch. It was only when she was holding him that he would actually fall asleep. And that meant he slept every night.
