March 2024 Honoree
Clare Ni'Shuilleabhain, BSN, RN
Clare cared for my aunt for 3 days. She exemplified all of the BJC values. Many nurses are good nurses. Clare is not only a good nurse who knows her stuff, she is unbelievably kind, friendly, and compassionate. She showed genuine empathy to my aunt when she was suffering, especially during frequent episodes of extreme coughing. She respected my aunt’s wishes, always reinforcing that my aunt had a choice about her care. She communicated with the doctor when concerning symptoms arose, even if we were the ones to express the concern. My aunt said the night nurses were good but that Clare was “exceptional.” The empathy she showed and the connection she made with my aunt was not only clear but reassuring to me since I could not be there all the time. In addition, Clare was supportive of my uncle and me. She took the time to listen. When the ICU nurse promised that Clare would take good care of my aunt, she wasn’t making something up to reassure me. She was right. Clare is good, and everything is ok under her watch.
Thank you, Clare, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
