Without any doubt or hesitation, Ms. Clarence dived into the pool and tried to rescue the child.
This nurse’s clinical skill and especially compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model as per the criteria.
Ms. Clarence Sese and other ICU Staff were cycling around the OASIS compound, and on their way back to their flat, a lady was in a hurry and stopped them, asking if they knew how to swim. The lady speaks in Arabic but somehow understands that something is wrong and, through her actions, that someone is drowning in the pool. They immediately left their bikes and rushed to the pool, and they saw a child (toddler age) under the water and almost at the bottom of the pool floor.
Without any doubt or hesitation, Ms. Clarence dived into the pool and tried to rescue the child. It was a failed rescue at first, as she gasped for air as well. On the second attempt, she managed to grab the child's shirt and bring it up. Immediately, CPR was done, and others called for an ambulance. ICU Doctor arrived at the scene as well and helped to revive the child. Forty minutes of CPR before the ambulance arrived, but unfortunately, the child passed away. Later on it was found out that the child is a daughter of one our ER Pediatric consultant.
This story is narrated by Ms. Clarence and Ms. K, which symbolizes a heroic act of saving someone’s life, even risking one’s self. I admire Ms. Clarence's courage and dedication to serving humanity beyond the nursing profession.
