Claudette is an extraordinary nurse every day. I have nominated her before for something similar but I am doing it again because she's done it again, gone and been herself, extraordinary.
A patient of mine who was recently admitted with a dual diagnosis had finally come up to an appropriate RLAS 7/8 only to find out that not only did he sustain a SCI and TBI but his mother had had a massive stroke and his siblings were there do ask for his input on pulling the plug, which they ended up having to do. He was distraught and grieving about everything as anyone would expect. He stated to the MD and CM that he wished to be able to attend his mother's funeral. Due to his medical status the MD didn't want to give him false hope of being able to go. As he was still medical (with an NGT, PICC, Trach, and recently Vent Weaned) and because he was a recent admit no family training had been done.
Claudette shined bright as always and offered to accompany him (with no monetary compensation) as his nurse at his mother's funeral. In a time of tragedy this selfless act by Claudette enabled this to the patient to pay his last respects in person to his mother. Such a gift she gave!
