He gave us updates at every step and somehow made this a good experience for my girls.
I brought my daughters in on New Year's Day. The whole care team was great, but I'd like to specifically mention the nurse who cared for them: Clayton. I couldn't have asked for a kinder and more attentive nurse. He quickly introduced himself after we were put in a room, sat down in a chair, and asked what was going on. He really listened to my concerns as a mom. He introduced himself to my girls and made sure they felt comfortable. At one point, when my 4-year-old needed medicine, she refused to drink it. Rather than turn it into a fight, Clayton got down on her level and just talked to her. He reasoned with her. And then he made her a "deal" - that he would mix in a little slushie if she would take it. So, he went and grabbed a slushie and mixed it in with the medicine - and she took it! I was shocked, because I couldn't even get her to take medicine. He gave us updates at every step and somehow made this a good experience for my girls. His kind tone and smile, while getting on their level, made all the difference. When we left, my girls had snacks and slushies, were feeling much better, and I left feeling relieved and thankful that all concerns and questions addressed. Thank you, Clayton! Because of you, my girls aren't scared of going to the hospital anymore.
