Clyde Williams was one of the wonderful nurses who cared for my mother in the Emergency Department. He was skilled, competent, and warm. My mom was supposed to celebrate her 100th birthday that day with a large celebration that had to be canceled. She was disappointed and fearful about her condition…a compression fracture and fluid in her lungs. We had also spent months preparing for the celebration! Despite this, my mom was alert, aware, and witty as usual, having delightful interchanges with this caring, sincere nurse. The next day, my mom was transferred to a room on the cardiac floor. That evening, Clyde, at the end of his long day, appeared in my mom’s room with a dish of “birthday cake” ice cream! The smile on her face was priceless! Clyde brought his own treat, and he and my mom laughed and chatted. We cannot get over this gesture of warmth and kindness that will never be forgotten. We also have some delightful photos!
