Over the course of the year, Cliff received nominations focusing on how he makes patients feel comfortable and how he shows them he is concerned about their wellbeing. Comments like he listened, showed concern about how I was feeling about everything. He made me laugh, took time to listen even to the little things that weren't related to why I was here exemplify Cliff's ability to weave clinical excellence with compassion.
One patient shared her story -
"I was brought back and evaluated, no one was really smiling, so I felt a bit lonely. But then Mr. Cliff walked in and introduced himself as my nurse- he did so with a smile. When he examined me and listened to my breathing he did so with kindness and took the time to make sure his stethoscope was warm so I wouldn't be freezing. He constantly was asking how I felt and offered water and ice (no one and no place ever offers water with ice). He listened to what I said with honest interest and care. Mr. Cliff made me feel safe, welcomed, peaceful, and happy. Professional and quick, he was not intrusive or distracted. During this stay, I realized I didn't require much during my stay, but I had a wonderful experience due to Mr. Cliff. I can see that he truly works hard and does his best...no, he seems to try better than his best. Nurses like Mr. Cliff are the people who give their employers a good name, they lift up companies and are the reasons that patients want to come back. You made my visit joyful, I wish I could hug you but hey - in the ED let's keep it clean and not risk contamination. As a dental assistant, I understand firsthand the importance of meeting a patient and how to treat them. Keep up the great work Mr. Cliff."
