I recently had one of the most frightening days of my life. My husband had suffered multiple cardiac events within minutes that morning, and in his pain and distress, he begged us to let him die. We waited anxiously for news of when the emergency pacemaker surgery would take place. And then everything changed as Clint walked into my husband's room in the ICU, and assured my husband that he was in good hands and that he was there to prep him for transport to the surgical unit. He took charge, getting the paperwork in order and getting my husband prepared for surgery. He told my husband, "We're going to take care of you, young man." Those words and his presence were so reassuring. I felt at that point that we were going to be okay. He let me accompany them on the way to surgery and let me kiss M goodbye. He said, "This is where we leave you, wait in there and I'll let you know how it goes." True to his word, he came to the waiting room immediately after surgery and gave me an update on M's situation and answered my questions. He told me to relax, finish my tea, and take my time going back to M's room because he was sleeping. What comforting words!
Even after the surgery, Clint would stop by M's room frequently to check up on him and answer any questions that we had. We felt a special bond with him because we both had been supported and comforted by him at a very low point in our lives. Clint is the model of individualized, compassionate, and patient-centered care, and we will never forget his kindness.
