Clint was the person this family needed during these moments, they asked for Clint because he was their child’s first nurse, and it only seemed fitting that he also be his last.
Clint cares for his patients with gentleness and grace; he is a light to his families. Clint is not only an expert nurse, but he brings a calming presence to his families. Often the “tasks” of his job are behind the scenes, done with ease and fluidity; his patients get to be the amazing, unique kids they are, first. He is committed to making his medically fragile patients feel like they are just kids, reading books, wrestling, and playing with balls. Clint’s patients’ families are included in the care- siblings are given the same energetic attention, and parents are given the time to sit down and talk, to be heard, and to be given value and input in the care their child receives. One family even calls him "Uncle Clint."
Clint had the opportunity recently, to gift a family with his compassionate care at their most vulnerable, raw moments of their child’s life- to help him pass away with the dignity, respect, and love that he deserved. While this is always a difficult challenge, Clint was honored to be the first nurse this child had when he came home from the NICU, and the last nurse this child had as he passed into the arms of God. Clint knew this was going to be a challenge, because of the love he has had for this child and family over the course of his lifetime. He was not simply a nurse to this family, but “Uncle Clint.” Clint was the person this family needed during these moments, they asked for Clint because he was their child’s first nurse, and it only seemed fitting that he also be his last. Clint is an exemplary nurse and lives his life serving others. He makes me a better person just by knowing him. He is a true gift to the profession.
