She relived his pain and calmed my fears.
My 67-year-old husband had prostate surgery at ECU Health Greenville Medical Center and was discharged home with a catheter. My husband was losing blood and had blood clots that clogged the catheter. So the next day, I took him back to Vidant Urology in Greenville. They decided to take out the catheter. He started him on wearing men's pull-up (disposable) underwear and sent him back home even though he was still having bladder spasms and would have blood clots coming out. They told us that the bleeding should get less and less. On Saturday, my husband continued to bleed out through his urethra with large amounts of blood clots and bladder spasms. I called the ECU Health charge nurse that night and informed them of the situation. They told me that he needed to go back to the Emergency Room. At 4:00 am on Sunday, my husband told me he had not been able to urinate since 2:00 am and he was in a lot of pain from bladder spasms and blood clots coming out. He said he was ready to go back to the Emergency Room. So I drove him to the ECU Health Bertie Hospital Emergency Room.
The Emergency Room staff started by putting a catheter back into my husband. They saw how much and how many blood clots were coming out. I told them we had gone through 24 pull-ups in less than 30 hours. Cody Bartley Perry got my husband successfully back on a saline bag, a catheter, and flushed out more blood clots. She relived his pain and calmed my fears. She got him on the list for transfer back to ECU Health Greenville. She told me at 2:00 pm that it would be fine for me to go home and get some much-needed rest. They would call me when he was transferred. She said that they would take really good care of my husband until transferred by ambulance.
Cody Bartley Perry is a DAISY Nurse because of her professionalism and the calm bedside manner she displayed for both my husband and for me, his caregiver. She reassured both of us in the midst of our health crisis. We are forever grateful to Cody Perry and her medical team.
