There are no words to describe the extent of what Cody did for us or means to us.
Cody was my son's nurse after he had an unplanned ileostomy. It was a lot for an 11-year-old with developmental and intellectual delays to comprehend. Cody went above and beyond to make my son comfortable and explain everything so that he understood. He experienced a blockage and became very sick very quickly. Cody was in here constantly trying to make him comfortable, communicating with doctors, trying to figure out what was going on. Every time the heart rate would jump up or down or any change in vitals, Cody would come in the door, so we knew he was watching the monitors very closely.
In the middle of the night, around 2 or 3 am, my son became extremely nauseous and started throwing up. I hit the nurse call button, and all we heard was "almost there," and Cody was coming in the door. He had seen the erratic vitals and was already heading our way when I hit the call button. He got him some meds and then made him comfortable and even laughing. My son told him, "You're Batman. I was in trouble, and you came flying in to help me." We called him Batman the entire rest of our stay.
We had some other nurses, but we looked forward to when Cody would be back for his shift. That comfort allowed us as parents to actually get restful sleep for the first time in days because we knew someone was taking excellent care of our child. My son would even say, "I'll wait for Batman, he takes care of me." Cody spent so much of his time educating us and teaching us about caring for his new stoma, changing bags, what to look for, what was good, and what wasn't. His knowledge and patience are immeasurable. His caring and passion for what he does are rare and should be celebrated. There are no words to describe the extent of what Cody did for us or means to us. He is a true superhero!
